Hammers can be warforged if you have a Tools Of War: Warhammers schematic placed within a 5*5 radius of your workbench. Blackstone hammers can only be crafted through the modular building system. Most tools progress so far, that a trip to the nether is required.
Tier 2 is stone, requiring you to get cobblestone, andesite, diorite or granite to make it.Tier 1 is planks, used for early games or for quick substitutes.Hammers have tiers depending on what type of material is used. You can also use planks of any type to craft the hammer, albeit it would start off lower tiered. Hammers can be crafted with two sticks and two cobblestone in this formation.
